Remember those oatmeal quick packets with dried apples in them and that amazing apple flavor? Well this is where the inspiration for this Apple Butter Oatmeal came from. I might be biased but mine is better, you get more oatmeal, less sugar (the sweetness actually comes from apple butter here) and the actual chopped apple and it takes only 5-10 minutes to make. Also bonus – it is approved by my almost 11 year old and that’s always a win in my book.

Easy, delicious and healthy hearty breakfast.
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cook Time: 5 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 1x
Ingredients
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup apple sauce
- 1/2 cup apple butter
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk
- 1/4–1/2 tsp cinnamon*
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup chopped apple **
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
- 1 tbsp ground flaxseed (optional)
- 1 scoop protein powder (optional)
Instructions
Mix almond milk with apple sauce, apple butter cinnamon and salt. Bring the almond milk mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally so that apple butter doesn’t burn. Add oats and chopped apple if cooking. Simmer on low for 5 minutes, stirring often. Once the 5 minutes are up, turn off the burner and add the rest of optional ingredients if using. Enjoy!
Notes
- * Sometimes apple butter has a lot of spice, in which case start out with 1/4 tsp cinnamon and go from there. Mine came spiced and I ended up adding 1/2 tsp cinnamon and it turned out great!
- ** You can cook chopped apple along with oats, just make sure you start out with a firm apple and not soft, otherwise you’ll end up with mush. You can also add raw chopped apple at the end. Work either way.
