These Honey Wheat Soft Pretzels are pretty amazing. My son got braces a couple of weeks ago. The orthodontist said that he couldn’t have any crunchy foods. Dry pretzels are one of his go to snacks so he was pretty devastated. So, I started looking for some recipes for a pretzel-like snack that is softer and easier on his mouth. And that’s how this recipe was born. It came out so good. I’m embarrassed to say that I think I had more pretzels then my son did. It was at least a tie for sure. When warm, they are good on their own or with honey mustard sauce.

Ingredients
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 1/8 cup instant dry yeast
- 1/4 cup butter, melted and cooled*
- 3 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2 cups wheat flour
- Pinch of salt
- Cooking spray, extra butter for brushing on
Instructions
- Mix warm water, honey, sugar and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes, until the mixture starts to foam.
- Mix all purpose and wheat flour with pinch of salt.
- Add butter to yeast mixture and 3 cups of flour mixture. Stir everything with wooden spoon and knead in the rest of the four. The dough will be a little bit sticky.
- Transfer the dough into greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 450F.
- Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper, spray the paper with cooking spray.
- Divide the dough into 12 pieces. Roll out a rope out of each piece and form a pretzel. Place the pretzel on a baking sheet. Repeat the process with the remaining pieces.
- Brush the pretzels with melted butter and let them rest for about 25 minutes.
- Brush the pretzels with butter again and bake them for 8-10 minutes, until they turn golden brown color.
Notes
- I’ve actually used vegan avocado butter simply because that’s what I had.
